Another Reason to say Fuck the police!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A Series of Attacks on the 1984-ing of Our Streets (Pt. 3): Fuck the Colfax Business Improvement District (CBID)

FUCK CBID: Protect our communities

The Colorado Business Improvement District (CBID), although sounding and acting almost solely like a for-profit corporation, is actually funded by property taxes in the city of Denver, the members of the board (mostly investors and business owners) are “appointed by the Mayor of Denver and approved by Denver City Council” (CBID Site). Although referred to as ‘quasi-governmental’ on the CBID website, they are funded publicly and its members are appointed by the government, making it a government entity. CBID’s goals, as stated on their website are to “promote economic vitality, implement a clean and safe street program and advocate on behalf of area businesses among public and private partners” (CBID Site).

Although CBID claims to want to implement a ‘clean and safe street program’, what they are clearly concerned with is not the cleanliness and safety of the community members on East Colfax, but instead ‘on behalf of area businesses’. In fact instead of donating towards cleaning projects or any ‘safety’ measures, CBID has donated $250,000 to installing at least 12 more HALO cameras on East Colfax. Apparently their idea of safety is contributing hundreds of thousands of dollars to the biggest gang in Denver. Although these HALO cameras MAY deter some vandalism on their corporate storefronts, they are clearly not meant for the safety of East Colfax’s residents, but instead their corporate properties and investments.

Although there is no definitive proof of whether these HALO cameras will actually deter crime or not; these cameras have certainly not ensured the safety of community members surrounding them. One example in which the HALO cameras provided the exact opposite of safety for a community member in Denver, would be the brutal beating of Michael DeHerrera. DeHerrera was brutalized by the DPD for simply talking on his cell phone, while the HALO camera magically panned away. This HALO camera specifically panned away from an innocent civilian being brutally beaten by a Denver pig; not only were the cameras most definitely not keeping DeHerrera safe, but they were specifically directed away. The HALO camera video can be found HERE. HALO cameras do not ensure the automatic safety of any Denver resident, nor have they been proven to prevent or deter crime. In all actuality, CBID is not at all concerned with the safety of its current residents.

In fact, when taking a much closer look at CBID’s agenda, or their “strategic plan” we see that their main concern is not for keeping the current residents on East Colfax safe, but actually removing them, making them feel unsafe in their own neighborhoods, forcing them out. This “strategic plan” is basically a system of gentrification, to force out the persons living on East Colfax in order to build high rise developments, and expensive apartments with businesses on the bottom. They give examples like Chamberlain Heights and Baker Commons as their model for the gentrification processes; these processes clearly include the addition of HALO cameras in order to not only force the existing community out, but ensure their corporate investors feel safe when moving in. The addition of these HALO Cameras to East Colfax are one facet of an overall strategy of gentrification on East Colfax, largely led and funded by CBID, a governmental organization; funded by taxes and appointed by the Mayor himself.

But CBID and their corporate backers itching to get their hands on the prime realty on East Colfax aren’t finished yet; in the meeting notes from their meeting on April 12, 2011, they resolved to sign a contract to add more HALO cameras to the area. These cameras are clearly a gross misuse of power by CBID, in an extremely disgusting attempt at gentrifying our own communities.

A Series of Attacks on the 1984-ing of Our Streets (Pt. 2): Fuck Target

“It was terribly dangerous to let your thoughts wander when you were in any public place or within range of a telescreen. The smallest thing could give you away. A nervous tic, an unconscious look of anxiety, a habit of muttering to yourself–anything that carried with it the suggestion of abnormality, of having something to hide. In any case, to wear an improper expression on your face… was itself a punishable offense. There was even a word for it in Newspeak: facecrime”
-George Orwell, 1984

Denver, CO

The year is 2011 and multi-billion dollar corporations are running the world and the governments that claim ownership to it; they rape and pillage not only the earth, but the persons living on it. They seek to understand the ‘common’ people, only to exploit them. Now persons not only have to worry about the pigs on the streets, but the pigs in the high-rises and skyscrapers peering down over us with a watchful eye. Weary of our actions they seek to keep us under control, in order to make sure that we don’t step out of line. In order to ensure their reign of power continues and that no one is seeking to strip them of their wealth in order to gain equality and self-determination for themselves; they despise the very thought of it! They understand that one person who steps out of line could cost thousands, while a small group of resisters could cost millions, and a whole country united could destroy the whole system of power and control that keeps them afloat.

FUCK Target: Putting a Target on TargetTarget, a multi-billion dollar corporation, is also (according to their website) extremely dedicated to ‘investing’ in OUR communities. In fact, theysupposedly donate an entire 5% of their profits as an ‘investment’ into our communities. Their focus is on youth; supposedly mainly surrounding the issues of schools, education, and reading. Target claims that they focus strongly on the topic of education, donating most of that enormous 5% of their profits on things like ‘enhancing’ educational environments, and investing in school-related grants. In fact, the target actually DOES donate money to schools, schools right here in the Denver community; schools that OUR children are attending. In fact they donated over $100,000 to Denver schools in 2010 alone! And what did this money get our schools? Our youth? Was it new books? New supplies? Buses to actually take our children to and from school?! A free breakfast program even?!

Nope… The Target used this $100,000 on brand new, High Activity Location Observation cameras; that’s right, Target spent over $100,000 in our schools to buy a HALO camera system to watch our children at George Washington, Kennedy, and North High Schools.

In fact, upon a closer look of the targets initiative to ‘improve’ our communities, it’s clear that these corporate pigs don’t exactly spend that 5% of their income on the advancement of education and reading. They instead do the exact opposite, focusing on the oppression of our youth, of our communities; with projects like: Target + BLUE [PIGS] and the National Association of Town Watch.

The National Association of Town Watch (NATW) is a corporate sponsored non-profit organization that seeks to ‘enhance police-community relations’, while of course pedaling as much NATW gear as possible. Despite the obvious redundancy of a corporate-sponsored non-profit having a link to their own personalized ‘superstore’ at the center of their homepage; the NATW also holds an annual event called the National Night Out (NNO). This NNO, which is of course sponsored by Target, is basically the one designated night a year that the NATW actually does anything; apart from their 365 program which encourages local organizations or affiliates of NATW to find ‘target’ or ‘problem’ areas (which according to the NATW website are defined as areas with “illegal trash piles, broken bottles, graffiti, abandoned cars, trash-filled vacant lots” as these are surely signs of violent behavior), have your privileged members drive through, or visit them (because of course they live up on the hill), and snitch on anyone you see doing anything that they SUSPECT might be illegal activity.

The NNO is similar to the NATW overall purposes in most respects, as it is designated specifically to encourage community members to trust, support, and have faith in the very persons who brutalize, imprison, and murder them, their families, and friends. In their words, the NNO is designed to “Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs” AKA: SNITCH; while also to “send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back”. Unfortunately these pigs and pig wannabes are not fighting back against the persons who are imprisoning, murdering, and brutalizing their own people, instead they are incriminating the members of their own communities (or at least surrounding communities) because a little graffiti and some “illegal trash piles” makes them uncomfortable, because they don’t feel safe, even with the pigs breathing down their neck. Yet the NNO and the NATW is a joke of a non-profit anyways, just some gimmick to get these snitches and wannabe piglets to buy more shit from the NNO Superstore (See here:; while some yuppie, rich, retired, young republicans can get their face painted and take pictures of them getting pretend arrested while they laugh their ass off. The NATW and NNO are just fronts for pigs wanting to turn kids into snitches before they even hit puberty (embodying ‘1984-ing of our streets’ to a T). Where they can see Scruff the crime fighting dog and the Target dog wagging their shitty little tales together, reminding kids that they’re the ‘good-guys’, reminding them that yes, both the pigs AND Target are your friends. Where the pigs can indoctrinate our youth at an early age, telling them, “yeah, we’re the good guys, you can come to me to tell me anything, don’t worry about your friends or your family; because we’re the good guys”. But should we be building and strengthening community-police relations? Haven’t we had enough brutalization and harassment? Haven’t we seen enough of our friends, families, and neighbors beaten and murdered at the hands of these slimy pigs? Should we be trusting the pigs who murdered Marvin Booker with our children? Should we be trusting our children with pigs like John Carrier?! The disgusting pig and school resource officer convicted of possessing child pornography?!?! It’s high-time we cut the chord with these disgusting, low-life, murdering pigs!

Target + BLUE is a ‘partnership’ between Target and local pigs. This alliance is basically an oppressive network of gangs built to keep us, the Queen City residents, who are paying both Target and the pigs’ salaries, under control, imprisoned, and on the defensive. Through Target + Blue, the target donates hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of dollars to the largest gang in every city in the US: the po-lice. Yet, not only do these corporate scumbags donate funds to our enemies in blue, they also donate services; which according to their website include things like use of their “world-class forensic labs and investigation centers”. Target claims of course that all of this is done in order to make OUR communities safe, but are we really safe with this gang in blue invading our streets, brutalizing our youth, and murdering our friends and families? Do these corporate fucks really believe that their donation to Denver’s richest street gang helps our communities? Do they think that the murderers of Marvin Booker need more control? More money and cameras to ensure even more brutal and oppressive tactics?!

There is one thing we do know, that instead of donating books to our schools; instead of providing free lunches for our children; instead of giving bonuses for the teachers that educate our youth; Target has chosen to invest over $100,000 in HALO cameras to control our youth. In fact these corporate pigs have decided the best way to help our communities, is to give to the very organization that murdered Oleg Gidenko, Marvin Booker, and countless others. This is Target’s vision of ‘helping’ our communities, by donating to the very systems, the gangs that brutalize, harass, and monitor our every move; buying an entire system to ensure that our children don’t step out of line, that they’re controlled and under the pigs boot.

Alexander Landau Update: City Council Awards $795k Settlement

The Denver Post is reporting that the Denver City Council met on Monday and is paying a $795k  settlement to Alexander Landau.  The amount is the largest payout in the citiy’s history concerning a beat down case.  It is safe to assume that that does not consider cases in which victims are murdered.

What is surprising about this is not only the significant amount of money, but also the quickness in which a settlement has been reached.  The Complaint was filed in January and they are already talking settlement.  Of course the money fails to address the systemic issues at hand, additionally, in no way can the payout repair the physical and psychological trauma.  That said, congrats to Mr. Landau.

Additionally, two of the 4 officers terminated by Charlie Garcia were involved in the beating of Landau.  Randy Murr was terminated for reasons related to the beating of Michael DeHerrera and Ricky Nixon was recently axed related to the beating of several women outside of the Denver Diner.  It should be noted that Nixon also killed a woman in 2006.

HALO Camera Locations By District

We just came across this gem on the DPD’s website.  It is a listing of all HALO cameras located in Denver, broken up by District.  We will be doing more with this in the upcoming weeks.  Here is a pdf of the same list: HALO-Cam_List_by_Dist

Two More Pigs Get Shit Canned

Manager of Safety Charley Garcia has shit canned two more Denver Police officers. From our calculations that is 4 down and about 1196 to go.

Officers Ricky Nixon and Kevin Devine have been terminated for violating the “Commission of a Deceptive Act,” meaning they lied.  Officers Nixon and Devine were caught on a HALO camera on July 12, 2009 beating, macing, and billy clubbing women and men outside of the Denver Diner.  It remains unclear if any lawsuits have been filed from the incident.  The officer’s must have lied during the internal investigation.  They were not terminated for the excessive force, rather they were terminated for lying about the incident.

Unfortunately, we are unable to find the video on youtube, so let us know if you see it floating around

Ricky Nixon is the same pig that was involved in the brutal beating of Alexander Landau.  He also killed a man in 2006.

Fuck H.A.L.O. (High Activity Location Observation): A Series of Attacks on the 1984-ing of Our Streets

“There was of course no way of knowing whether you were being watched at any given moment… It was even conceivable that they watched everybody all the time. But at any rate they could plug in your wire whenever they wanted to. You had to live – did live, from habit that became instinct – in the assumption that every sound you made was overheard, and, except in darkness, every movement scrutinized”

                -George Orwell 1984

Denver, CO

The year is 2011, and the local ‘crime investigating’ unit is facing a rate of crime that seems to remain relatively stagnant. In a city where the real crimes are crimes of passion, when those with power seem to fragment society and everyday a new brutality case emerges where a young man or woman was gunned-down in cold blood, or viciously beaten to death. But if only there was a way for these beatings to become more frequent, for the suspects who were brutalized to be painted as the aggressor while the real aggressors could run wild. If only there were a system that would track the movements of every citizen in Denver, to manage their every step, to oversee their lives, to catch them in any misbehavior or misdeed they commit. If only there were a system that could ensure that these riled up citizens of a horrible, corrupt town, only trumped by Gotham City could be kept in line. If only there were a way to ensure that no one in this god-forsaken country could ever step out of line and speak their mind again. Yet out of this need for such unflinching and unwavering oppression comes the answer, a security system that places an invisible state official on every corner, to watch your every move, to ensure that NO ONE steps out of their place…

The following series of attacks on the 1984-ing of the Denver streets will continue with articles examining the funding of the HALO camera system, through corporations including Target and the Colfax Business Improvement District (CBID); along with a few articles on the HALO Oversight Committee and the battle between privacy and ‘safety’. These articles, along with condemning the actions of the HALO system, will most likely be the most comprehensive series on HALO and its constituents to date, as a near media blackout has eliminated this 1984-ing from reaching the public eye.

“We would like to put a cop at every corner. But in reality, who can put a cop at every corner?” Said Lt. Ernie Martinez, the pig behind the High Activity Location Observation (HALO) system; so why not just put a camera on every corner (Denver Post)?

These high resolution cameras used in HALO were (of course) brought to you mainly by the private sector; corporations who have donated hundreds of thousands of dollars to ensure ‘order’ in the streets of Denver. Target, one of the main funders of the HALO system in Denver, reportedly donated over $100,000 towards the 1984-ing of our streets (Denver Post). Apparently, in an act specifically targeting our youth, Target also asked that their donation be used to infest our PUBLIC schools with HALO cameras, which are now being installed at Kennedy, North, and George Washington high schools (Denver Post). These sites would be added in addition to the HALO cameras that can already be found at Lincoln, Montebello, East, and Manual high schools (Denver Post).

In addition to the extremely generous Target donations towards furthering the HALO All Seeing Eye; the Colfax Business Improvement District (CBID) also plans to make a donation of over $250,000 to the Denver Police Department for the installation of HALO cameras on East Colfax. The CBID is a both public and privately owned corporation who turn a profit on the gentrification of East Colfax. According to the CBID’s ‘Strategic Plan’, one of their only 4 successes was to introduce “a video surveillance system that has contributed to a significant reduction in crime in the area” (CBID 3). CBID’s stated goals include the promotion of “economic vitality and sustainability for CBID property and business owners” and to “protect, promote and enhance the assets of its property and business owners by providing a clean, safe, attractive, functional commercial district for its customers, visitors and employees” (CBID Mission Statement). In other words, CBID seeks to force the community members of East Colfax out, while tactically positioning HALO cameras along the East Colfax corridor, in order to make the area seem ‘clean, safe, and attractive’ for its customers and wealthy business owners. This goal of protecting business over people is a consistent theme throughout the HALO/pig thought-process, as federal grants are being approved to place these cameras at places like the Cherry Creek Mall, in order to protect “potential terrorism targets” (Denver Post).

One must consider that these HALO intruders not only want to protect their businesses through gentrification, they also seek to intimidate and harass ordinary Denver citizens. In fact, another major donor to the 1984-ing of our streets, were the major contributions toward beefing up the pig-security during the Democratic National Convention in 2008 (Denver Post). These federal funds paid for 50 additional HALO cameras in downtown Denver alone (Denver Post).

Denver is not the only city that is dealing with this neo-pig intelligence system, the streets of Baltimore are littered with over 400 similar cameras, and Chicago Mayor Richard Daley, claims that he will install a camera on every corner (in addition to the 2,250 already in place) by the year 2016 (Denver Post). Additionally, the city of Philadelphia is known for its HALO cameras in poor neighborhoods. The cameras blink a constant blue light. There is a joke of sorts in these affected communities that if viewed from space north Philadelphia is one giant blue light.

Furthermore, HALO-like camera systems at the 2001 Super Bowl were also equipped with face-recognition technology in order to identify ‘criminals’. Considering that this technology has been used so prominently for over 10 years, it’s almost certain that these face-recognition systems are used within the HALO network in Denver streets, especially with the hundreds of thousands of dollars being poured into this project. These HALO cameras are also able to “zoom in and capture an image of something as small as a license plate as far as a block and a half away” (Denver Post). As these cameras will never be used to identify traffic violators, this might be a poor example; and furthermore, the insinuation that traffic violations are what these HALO cameras are being used for is bullshit. What the Denver pigs really want, simply restated, is the ability to “zoom in and capture an image of something as small as a” face “as far as a block and a half away”.

Similar tyrannical camera systems in Chicago are also able to identify the sound of gunshots and automatically focus on the source of those sounds; although super-pig Ernie Martinez explains that the HALO systems do not yet have this type of technology. The Denver HALO system’s mysterious absence of this new technology is clearly not due to lack of funding, nor to the respect for the privacy of Denver residents. So why are the Denver HALO systems so far behind in this opportunity to further their ‘fight against crime’? Why would the Denver Pig Department (DPD) stall in the opportunity to catch shooting perps? Could it be because the DPD themselves are usually the ones popping off rounds in the middle of the night? Perhaps because the Denver pigs don’t want to get caught murdering any more innocent Queen City residents?

These overtly repressive tactics being used by the Denver pigs to keep Denverites from stepping out of line, to keep Queen City citizens from upping the ANTI all over their asses, are simply petty scare tactics that should not be taken lightly. This push towards the 1984-ing of our streets is just a step toward the even further oppression, gentrification, and destruction of our families, friends, and communities, and it’s time to finally stand-up and put a stop to these criminal acts committed by the biggest gang on our streets: THE PIG$…
