A Series of Attacks on the 1984-ing of Our Streets (Pt. 2): Fuck Target

“It was terribly dangerous to let your thoughts wander when you were in any public place or within range of a telescreen. The smallest thing could give you away. A nervous tic, an unconscious look of anxiety, a habit of muttering to yourself–anything that carried with it the suggestion of abnormality, of having something to hide. In any case, to wear an improper expression on your face… was itself a punishable offense. There was even a word for it in Newspeak: facecrime”
-George Orwell, 1984

Denver, CO

The year is 2011 and multi-billion dollar corporations are running the world and the governments that claim ownership to it; they rape and pillage not only the earth, but the persons living on it. They seek to understand the ‘common’ people, only to exploit them. Now persons not only have to worry about the pigs on the streets, but the pigs in the high-rises and skyscrapers peering down over us with a watchful eye. Weary of our actions they seek to keep us under control, in order to make sure that we don’t step out of line. In order to ensure their reign of power continues and that no one is seeking to strip them of their wealth in order to gain equality and self-determination for themselves; they despise the very thought of it! They understand that one person who steps out of line could cost thousands, while a small group of resisters could cost millions, and a whole country united could destroy the whole system of power and control that keeps them afloat.

FUCK Target: Putting a Target on TargetTarget, a multi-billion dollar corporation, is also (according to their website) extremely dedicated to ‘investing’ in OUR communities. In fact, theysupposedly donate an entire 5% of their profits as an ‘investment’ into our communities. Their focus is on youth; supposedly mainly surrounding the issues of schools, education, and reading. Target claims that they focus strongly on the topic of education, donating most of that enormous 5% of their profits on things like ‘enhancing’ educational environments, and investing in school-related grants. In fact, the target actually DOES donate money to schools, schools right here in the Denver community; schools that OUR children are attending. In fact they donated over $100,000 to Denver schools in 2010 alone! And what did this money get our schools? Our youth? Was it new books? New supplies? Buses to actually take our children to and from school?! A free breakfast program even?!

Nope… The Target used this $100,000 on brand new, High Activity Location Observation cameras; that’s right, Target spent over $100,000 in our schools to buy a HALO camera system to watch our children at George Washington, Kennedy, and North High Schools.

In fact, upon a closer look of the targets initiative to ‘improve’ our communities, it’s clear that these corporate pigs don’t exactly spend that 5% of their income on the advancement of education and reading. They instead do the exact opposite, focusing on the oppression of our youth, of our communities; with projects like: Target + BLUE [PIGS] and the National Association of Town Watch.

The National Association of Town Watch (NATW) is a corporate sponsored non-profit organization that seeks to ‘enhance police-community relations’, while of course pedaling as much NATW gear as possible. Despite the obvious redundancy of a corporate-sponsored non-profit having a link to their own personalized ‘superstore’ at the center of their homepage; the NATW also holds an annual event called the National Night Out (NNO). This NNO, which is of course sponsored by Target, is basically the one designated night a year that the NATW actually does anything; apart from their 365 program which encourages local organizations or affiliates of NATW to find ‘target’ or ‘problem’ areas (which according to the NATW website are defined as areas with “illegal trash piles, broken bottles, graffiti, abandoned cars, trash-filled vacant lots” as these are surely signs of violent behavior), have your privileged members drive through, or visit them (because of course they live up on the hill), and snitch on anyone you see doing anything that they SUSPECT might be illegal activity.

The NNO is similar to the NATW overall purposes in most respects, as it is designated specifically to encourage community members to trust, support, and have faith in the very persons who brutalize, imprison, and murder them, their families, and friends. In their words, the NNO is designed to “Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs” AKA: SNITCH; while also to “send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back”. Unfortunately these pigs and pig wannabes are not fighting back against the persons who are imprisoning, murdering, and brutalizing their own people, instead they are incriminating the members of their own communities (or at least surrounding communities) because a little graffiti and some “illegal trash piles” makes them uncomfortable, because they don’t feel safe, even with the pigs breathing down their neck. Yet the NNO and the NATW is a joke of a non-profit anyways, just some gimmick to get these snitches and wannabe piglets to buy more shit from the NNO Superstore (See here: http://www.nnosuperstore.com/); while some yuppie, rich, retired, young republicans can get their face painted and take pictures of them getting pretend arrested while they laugh their ass off. The NATW and NNO are just fronts for pigs wanting to turn kids into snitches before they even hit puberty (embodying ‘1984-ing of our streets’ to a T). Where they can see Scruff the crime fighting dog and the Target dog wagging their shitty little tales together, reminding kids that they’re the ‘good-guys’, reminding them that yes, both the pigs AND Target are your friends. Where the pigs can indoctrinate our youth at an early age, telling them, “yeah, we’re the good guys, you can come to me to tell me anything, don’t worry about your friends or your family; because we’re the good guys”. But should we be building and strengthening community-police relations? Haven’t we had enough brutalization and harassment? Haven’t we seen enough of our friends, families, and neighbors beaten and murdered at the hands of these slimy pigs? Should we be trusting the pigs who murdered Marvin Booker with our children? Should we be trusting our children with pigs like John Carrier?! The disgusting pig and school resource officer convicted of possessing child pornography?!?! It’s high-time we cut the chord with these disgusting, low-life, murdering pigs!

Target + BLUE is a ‘partnership’ between Target and local pigs. This alliance is basically an oppressive network of gangs built to keep us, the Queen City residents, who are paying both Target and the pigs’ salaries, under control, imprisoned, and on the defensive. Through Target + Blue, the target donates hundreds of thousands (if not millions) of dollars to the largest gang in every city in the US: the po-lice. Yet, not only do these corporate scumbags donate funds to our enemies in blue, they also donate services; which according to their website include things like use of their “world-class forensic labs and investigation centers”. Target claims of course that all of this is done in order to make OUR communities safe, but are we really safe with this gang in blue invading our streets, brutalizing our youth, and murdering our friends and families? Do these corporate fucks really believe that their donation to Denver’s richest street gang helps our communities? Do they think that the murderers of Marvin Booker need more control? More money and cameras to ensure even more brutal and oppressive tactics?!

There is one thing we do know, that instead of donating books to our schools; instead of providing free lunches for our children; instead of giving bonuses for the teachers that educate our youth; Target has chosen to invest over $100,000 in HALO cameras to control our youth. In fact these corporate pigs have decided the best way to help our communities, is to give to the very organization that murdered Oleg Gidenko, Marvin Booker, and countless others. This is Target’s vision of ‘helping’ our communities, by donating to the very systems, the gangs that brutalize, harass, and monitor our every move; buying an entire system to ensure that our children don’t step out of line, that they’re controlled and under the pigs boot.

  1. So who’s monitoring the footage captured by those cameras? Is it the school administration? Or is it the Target corporate entity itself?

  2. I love the whole “snitching” thing. Don’t get me wrong…I’m not a 100% supporter of all things police. Some bad people out there have really ruined things for the good cops. And the overwhelming majority of all police officers are good.

    That being said…

It’s all good until someone’s kid is shot or something happens. Then I see the mama or grandmama on the news, pleading to anyone who will listen to help them get justice. Ohhh, my baby……someone shot my baby…….and he was always such a good boy. Then a few friends and family members also pipe in with how great the boy was and how we need your help.

Well, whatever happened to “no snitching”? I know, I know…it sounds cool. However……you hate the police, you hate snitching, and yet you have the balls to ask for help finding out who put a cap in your baby/son/friend/whatever. Hmmm…..something doesn’t sound right here.
