Murderer of Jason Kemp Still Free

Jason Kemp, 31, as murdered on the night of July 20th in the home of his common-law wife by a Colorado State Trooper.  This is the story this far, its seems that Kemp and some friends had spent a fun day in the sun riding their watercraft and having a few drinks.  On the way home their watercraft fell off its trailer onto a neighbor’s yard.  “…the men were apologetic, one of them saying, “The accelerator got stuck,” while promising to return and fix his lawn…”.  They then went home.  The State Troopers arrived at the scene and a 5 minute confrontation ensued.  The Troopers pounded and or kicked on the door, “They said they were police officers, open the door, with a few expletives in there,” Olson said.  Olson is Kemp’s friend and was inside of the house during the murder.  Kemp as a smart American should, demanded a warrant, defending his 4th amendment rights.  The troopers continued kicking at the door, “they shattered a long section of the doorway’s frame, according to the neighbor, and one of the troopers grabbed the shattered wood and shoved it in the doorway, preventing the man inside from shutting the door completely”.  This is when both a the neighbor witness, as well as Olson, saw the Trooper spray pepper spray into the house blinding Kemp and affecting Olson.  The trooper finally kicked in the door and fired once hitting Kemp in the chest and killing him.  By all accounts, Kemp was unarmed, and blinded, before being murdered.  Some witnesses have described noticing that the Trooper that murdered Kemp seemed distraught and even performed CPR.  The Trooper should feel distraught, this trooper murdered a man in his home, and have cut down his hopes and dreams.  Even though the murderer seems to regret their actions, they should still be held accountable, and jailed.  If any civilian ever “accidentally” murders an unarmed person and then feels bad about it, they still end up in jail, and this trooper should be held to the same standards.  Our condolences go out to his family and friends.

“Jason’s family and friends have suffered a great loss due to a Colorado State Trooper tragically taking Jason’s young life. Jason was a long-time Grand Junction resident who graduated from Mesa State College in Spring 2002 with an Associate of Applied Science in Technology Integration. He was a hard worker who was laid off from Patterson-UTI as a Derrick Man. He was also a student pilot who enjoyed being in the air.  Jason will be remembered as an easy going, fun loving guy with a great sense of humor. He was a loving, loyal son and a caring brother who has helped support family members when the need arose. Jason was a “beautiful person” who had a “contagious laugh that lit up the room with his smile” and “was like a brother” to many people, as reported by his friends. He was also great with kids and had a gentle spirit.”

Updates on the Horrendous Murder of Marvin Louis Booker

“Get the taser, Get the Taser,” were the words that echoed through the walls of the Denver City jail just prior to the murder of Marvin Booker.

Mr. Booker had been arrested in the early morning of July 9th on drug paraphernalia charges.   According to the Denver Post, two separate witnesses recall the brutal incident vividly.   According to their statements, Mr. Booker was sleeping in his chair when he was called to the desk.  He got up without putting on his shoes.  A female deputy told him to sit down.  Mr. Booker replied that he’d rather stand.  The deputy told him she would put place him in a holding cell, to which Booker responded that that’d be fine, Lemme go get my shoes.  The deputy then grabbed Booker, who brushed her off.

Witnesses then say that Booker was swarmed by deputies and thrown on the floor.  At least four deputies were involved.  According to the Denver Post, Christopher Maten and John Yedo recall, the deputy grabbed Booker by the arm and put a lock on him, Yedo said. Booker, who was 5 feet 5 and weighed 175 pounds, pushed her away. At that point, four other deputies wrestled Booker to the concrete floor. They slid down two steps to the floor in the sitting area. Yedo said the deputies each grabbed a limb while he struggled.

” ‘Get the Taser. Get the Taser,’ ” Yedo quoted one of the deputies as saying.

Yedo said he was only about 3 feet away, and Maten said he was close enough that if he stood and took one step, he could reach out and touch one of the deputies.

None of the deputies involved in the restraint has been identified. One female deputy was treated at a hospital for an injury she suffered in the confrontation, Gale said.  A fifth deputy put Booker in a headlock just as the female deputy began shocking him with a Taser with encouragement from one of the deputies, who kept repeating, “Probe his —,” Maten said. He could hear the Taser crackle repeatedly.  Booker said, “‘I can’t breath . . .,” Yedo heard. Then, Booker went limp.  Booker’s wrists were handcuffed behind his back in an awkward position when the deputies picked him up, each holding an arm or a leg, and carried him stomach-down to a holding cell with an unbreakable glass door.   They set him down on his stomach, with much of his weight on one shoulder and his legs bent, Yedo said. They took the handcuffs off and without checking his pulse, the officers left him on the floor of the holding cell.   The deputies walked away high-fiving and laughing, Maten said. Several inmates were saying, ” ‘I can’t believe they’re doing this,’ ” Maten said.  Yedo said he stared at Booker, watching his chest, which wasn’t moving. One deputy had stayed next to the cell and was also staring at Booker.  “I told the guy, ‘Hey, that guy is not breathing,’ ” Yedo said.  The deputy turned and yelled at the sergeant.   “Sergeant, come here. Sergeant, hurry,’ ” Yedo said he yelled.

Within months of the opening of this $300 million Jail an innocent man is dead.  Not only was he heinously murdered, the murder’s celebrated their actions.  There is a guarantee that the murder was video taped since it occurred in the processing area.  Our deepest condolences to the Booker family and hopefully some justice can be brought.  These murdering, cowardice, motherless punks deserve the worst.  More information as it comes and thanks to the Denver Post for reporting the story so well.

Officer E. Quintana

Man Murdered in New Jail

On Friday July 9th at 1 am, Marvin Louis Booker was brought into the new Denver jail on charges of possession of drug paraphernalia, by 4:33 am he was pronounced dead.    Marvin Booker was a 56 year old man who was 5 foot 5 inches and weighed 175 lbs, a “a small, passive man”.  All that has been released as of yet is that there was an “incident” in the intake room in which a female sheriff’s officer was injured and that resulted in the murder of Marvin Booker.   “It’s kind of suspicious. I believe they probably beat him to death,” said George Booker, Marvin Booker’s cousin. “There have been a lot of incidents where the police brutalized people and then lied about it. They need to assign some kind of special prosecutor.”  George Booker has contacted the jail but has stated that, “They’re being awful hush-hush right now,” and he has not gotten any additional information.  Who knows what narratives are being created in an attempt to justify this murder.

The Denver Police Department and the District Attorney are starting an investigation into the murder of Marvin Booker, and since that Denver Sheriff’s Department is not officially involved in the investigation that is supposed to make it unbiased.  They are all just parts of the same system with the same interests and we are really supposed to trust cops and the DA to get the truth and make it public?  Why not a special prosecutor as recommended by George Booker, who without ties to the system that killed his cousin could probably come up true answers to the many questions surrounding this tragedy.

The $159 million Van Cise-Simonet Detention Center is supposed to be a new “safe, humane and secure environment”.  If it is so secure why did officers feel the need to use “excessive force” or whatever the hell they did to kill this 56 year old man? Opening only in April, it is not on a good track to show that it is safe or humane for anyone being forced into it.  But as anyone who has been through the system knows, the last words used to describe any prison are “safe and humane”.  Prisons are tortuous archaic institutions that do little to actually help solve problems at the root of “crimes” or to help “rehabilitate”.

Marvin Booker was turning his life around, planning to become a minister like his father.  He volunteered at local churches to help the poor and his life along with all of his hopes and aspirations were cut short by the Denver Sheriff’s Department’s violent ways.  Our condolences go out to his family and we can hope that his murderer will be caught and punished.
